What is the difference between a hammer drill and a regular drill?

When it comes to power tools, and especially cordless power drills, many look the same. Features and functionality will vary for hand held drill machines, like hammer drills and impact drivers. Hammer drills have an internal hammering mechanism, which is typically positioned behind the chuck. This mechanism introduces a forward and back chipping motion, that can occur very fast. Use the hammer feature when you are drilling a hole in concrete, masonry, or another solid and strong structure.
