Workmate 225 Type6

This product is exactly what I expected from the store display. It is not the most sophisticated piece of equipment, yet it is good quality for the price. Works out well for a portable work surface in limited space. Good value.

Pros: Easy assembly, Stores flat and simple, Convienient, quick to use.

Cons: No cons.

Poorly built

New unit is a very poor replication of the old unit that I have had since 1981. New unit has very light weight metal and while rear jaw is adjustable, it uses plastic slides which broke during the set up. Purchased new unit based on performance & durability of the old unit, which has withstood considerable use. While it says the unit can hold up to 400 lbs, I would be extremely hesitant to try to try out this claim in their advertising. This unit was purchased sight unseen as store did not have any in stock at the time, but unit was on sale. It had to be assembled, which instructions were not very clear, either in word or picture. A very poor product for a highly reputable Brand name.

Pros: light weight

Cons: metal to thin, plastic slides not strong

excellent, reliable tool

I haven't used older Workmate models, which everyone reports as having sturdier construction. This model does include some plastic components, but at the same time it's worked exceptionally well for me so far. I've successfully used the work surface, dogs, and clamping features for both power tool work (routing) and hand tool work (hand saws, chisels, sanding) without any difficulties. It's wonderful to have such a steady work surface and holding tool that can be stored out of the way when not in use.

Pros: versatility step provides added stability easy to move and store

Cons: some parts might be less durable than one might desire

Clever engineering--Poor construction

I bought this unit to replace my old Workmate (probably over 10 yrs. old) that somehow didn't make it to my new home when I moved. I LOVED my old Workmate (sniff, sniff). This new unit is but a cheap copy of my old one. Although there is some clever engineering, the materials used are cheap and poor quality. Flimsy sheet metal for the overall structure and cheap plastic for the working parts. While my old Workmate was still very functional after many years of service, I doubt that this one will make it for more than two or three--even with light use. I would have purchased a different brand of portable workbench had I been able to find one, but the others that I researched were just as flimsy. It is sad to me that B&D has gone from a company making high quality products to a company which produces more cheap crap like many others. I would have gladly paid twice--or even three times--as much for a durable, high quality product if it were available. Sadly, none seem to be.

Pros: Clever engineering

Cons: Poor quality construction

Very good tool

I have used two of them for many years and always worked fine. It is nice that it can be folded and stored away. Finally after standing in the flood for 2.5 month it isn't that good anymore. So time to buy a new one. Probably going for the 225 and a 425 this time.

Pros: Sturdy, easy to use, and easy to store

Cons: If the Workmate 125 would be the same height as the 425 and 225 (but based on the website it isn't) then it would be a nice combination to have a 125 with the 425.
