excellent, reliable tool

I haven't used older Workmate models, which everyone reports as having sturdier construction. This model does include some plastic components, but at the same time it's worked exceptionally well for me so far. I've successfully used the work surface, dogs, and clamping features for both power tool work (routing) and hand tool work (hand saws, chisels, sanding) without any difficulties. It's wonderful to have such a steady work surface and holding tool that can be stored out of the way when not in use.

Pros: versatility step provides added stability easy to move and store

Cons: some parts might be less durable than one might desire

Clever engineering--Poor construction

I bought this unit to replace my old Workmate (probably over 10 yrs. old) that somehow didn't make it to my new home when I moved. I LOVED my old Workmate (sniff, sniff). This new unit is but a cheap copy of my old one. Although there is some clever engineering, the materials used are cheap and poor quality. Flimsy sheet metal for the overall structure and cheap plastic for the working parts. While my old Workmate was still very functional after many years of service, I doubt that this one will make it for more than two or three--even with light use. I would have purchased a different brand of portable workbench had I been able to find one, but the others that I researched were just as flimsy. It is sad to me that B&D has gone from a company making high quality products to a company which produces more cheap crap like many others. I would have gladly paid twice--or even three times--as much for a durable, high quality product if it were available. Sadly, none seem to be.

Pros: Clever engineering

Cons: Poor quality construction

Very good tool

I have used two of them for many years and always worked fine. It is nice that it can be folded and stored away. Finally after standing in the flood for 2.5 month it isn't that good anymore. So time to buy a new one. Probably going for the 225 and a 425 this time.

Pros: Sturdy, easy to use, and easy to store

Cons: If the Workmate 125 would be the same height as the 425 and 225 (but based on the website it isn't) then it would be a nice combination to have a 125 with the 425.

Made in China, Need I say more

Missing spot weld on frame causes loss of clamping pressure on left crank. I returned it to Menards and picked up another one. Same problem. Several hours of my life wasted buying, assembling, and returning this junk.

Pros: I have one that was purchased maybe 25 years ago. Love it. It has served me well. Bring the manufacturing for this back to the US. Problem solved because Americans are the best manufacturers on the planet. They care more about what they are making. Stop giving our money to the chinese who are turning out garbage. Re-work is very expensive. How smart do you feel now having produced this junk in CHINA?

Cons: New ones have poor quality. No welds where there should be one.

Possibly the most versatile tool I have in my workshop.

I have had this tool since the mid-1990's and have used it for every kind of project imaginable. It has held up very well for the amount of use and abuse I have put it through.I have only had to replace the plastic leg catches until recently the plastic belt on the One Handed Clamp that closes both sides at the same time has broken. Apparently that part is no longer available and the new models no longer have that feature. It is still very useable and still serves me well.

Pros: Versatility and folds up small to take up less room.

Cons: The One Handed Clamp feature is no longer available. It is a very handy feature when having to hold a piece in place while closing the clamp. Also the belt for that feature no longer available.
