AutoSense™ Technology

Your Mower Just Got Smarter

AutoSense™ Technology determines the thickness of grass and makes power adjustments accordingly. For thicker grass, the mowers kick into high power while in lighter grass, the mowers lower the power output to conserve battery life and extend runtime.

Lightweight and so-o-o-o easy to charge and empty

Have you owned a "last generation" B&D electric cordless mower before? I have. This is SO much improved. My first mower was a 20 volt 20 inch mower, circa 2005. This is a 16 inch, 40v. It looks like a toy next to its behemoth parent. I love it!

Super lightweight. My 8 year old was mowing with no difficulties. Hauling the old mower around was a bit of a chore for a full grown adult. The old mower stalled in high grass. This tiny tot goes right through it.

The bag is way undersized, so you have to empty the mower 10 times for a large yard. I can live with this.

The old style B&D mower had a battery that was difficult to extract. This one's pops right out and into a counter-top recharging station. There are two so you can switch. One alone probably will not last for mowing a large yard. Winter care will be a snap, I will just remove the batteries and store them in the kitchen or basement until spring.

The new handle folds down better as well.

I do wish that these mowers were a little less "plasticky." My old mower kept working, but the plastic parts broke. I expect that the plastic will be what kills this mower also.

Price has improved between the old and new models also. This mower cost about 60% what my first B&D cordless electric mower cost me.

Pros: light, maneuverable, flip-down handle, easy recharge station, height adjustor is metal

Cons: battery short-lived, bag too small, key parts made of plastic

Machine excellent; manual not so much

The layout of the manual is pretty chaotic, with poor headings, and overly "busy." Photographs are a poor substitute for well-drawn diagrams. Most seriously, though, the section on "ATTACHING LOWER HANDLE" (p.5) leaves out a necessary step that is not in the least "intuitive." I finally had to call up "Help." How does one get the "wheel" at the base of the lower handle past the handle adjust levers and onto the rods on each side. The manual never mentions that you have to nor, of course, does it suggest how. The "Help" person there was polite, but at first she assumed that I was making the mistake and not B&D, stating that the lower handle must come in the box already attached to the machine until she finally checked the manual and saw the topic. Then, she put me on hold while she went back and took a machine apart to figure out what had to be done (you unscrew the shafts and then replace them on the "wheel" of the lower handle. Large kudos for her perseverance. Her company loyalty and skepticism regarding about the customer at the beginning a little too much, though. In the manual, the part #7 is called "lower-handle attachment lever" on page 3 and, then, as noted "handle height adjust lever" on page 5. Ouch!

Pros: Really cuts a neat swath; deals well with high grass; two lithium batteries make keeping it ready to go easy

Cons: Assembly made difficult by sloppy manual; grass collection bag a bit small.

Best mower I've ever owned

A pleasure to mow the lawn now. Extremely lightweight for a battery-powered mower. Battery versatility is amazing as they're very compact and light, and can be popped in and out and charged at home in the convenient charger. It does an excellent job of cutting with no longer any need for a double pass. Highly recommended.

Pros: Lightweight, cordless, compact versatile batteries, easy to maneuver, excellent cutting quality

Cons: Limited battery charge, smallish grass bag, no mulching capability, slightly flimsy

Total Waste of Money

Hard to review a product when it only works once. Second time around it would not start. Yes both batteries were charged, and yes I was able to test the batteries on my cordless trimmer. A total failure.

Pros: Cordless

Cons: Only works once
