    Great Concept, But Not Reliable

I gave this product two stars because mine DOES still work on DC power. But, like most of the other reviewers, I expected more from B&D. Seems like a little pre-market testing would have exposed this fuse issue.
    Pros:

    Auto shut-off and portability.

    Cons:

    AC power and fuse malfunction

    JUNK - DO NOT BUY

I bought one in 2009 and it worked great on DC power. I used it a few times on AC power and the Ac portion stopped working. Black and Decker sent me a new one in 2011, even though the warranty was out of date. The customer service rep told me that they can not be fixed. After using AC power 3 times, it stopped working. It still works on Dc power. B&D knows that this unit not not work properly, but continues to sell the product. This product should be recalled and pulled off the market.
    Pros:

    Dual purpose AC/DC power

    Cons:

AC Power stops working after a few uses and can not be fixes.

Great little unit...but apparently I must have blown a fuse like others have reported.
    Pros:

    Automatic shut-off, lightweight

    Cons:

Will NOT buy a replacment unit from B & D. This one was less than a year old and it appears that it cannot be repaired by the homeowner. $100 MSRP is awful expensive for such a short life. Plenty of competitors at a lower price. My Campbell Hausfeld lasted over 5 years. Don't know if the 12 volt option worked as intended, the unit died before I could try it.

This is the second B&D air pump I have owned. Both have failed within ONE year with very few uses. The circuit fuse blows very easily and can't be replaced. Come one Black and Decker! Really? Once the fuse blows this item is about as useful as tits on a bull. Spend your hard earned money on something else.
    Pros:

    Great concept.

    Cons:

The fuse blows out and can't be replaced.

worked for just a few minutes

I received this as a gift from work. I inflated two car tires from 25psi to 35psi. First tire, no prob worked great. Second one I had to play with the dial and then it spontaneously kicked on. 3rd tire no dice. No matter what I do (turn on/off, moving dial, unplug/plug) I cannot get the motor to turn on. The gage still lights up and I can hear it "click" turning on but no compressor action. This was on A/C power. I see some people can get it to work on DC so I will try that. I am surprised so many negative reviews on the internet for a B&D product. Maybe theyre not what they used to be from a quality standpoint. Unfortunately I cannot recommend one of these to anyone.
    Pros:

light up gage, quick inflation when it works (only 2x for me)

    Cons:

it just doesnt work also AC cord is very short

I guess my fuse is blown too

The unit has worked fine to inflate tires in my garage using AC power. Today I needed to inflate my bicycle tires to 80 psi and decided to use the DC feature. It inflated the first tire fine and then quit half way through inflating the second tire. This was the first time I had tried using the unit with DC power. It still works when I plug it into AC.
    Pros:

Portable. Fits well under the back seat of my pickup. Acceptable inflation rate for a unit of this type.

    Cons:

Obviously has a reliability problem with it's electrical circuit. Not worth carrying in my truck if it won't work with DC power.

Replaced the 1st product after less than a year, then the replacement item failed during its first new use. Father has a Craftsman inflator for as long as I can remember, wish they still made his since it has far exceeded B&Ds "Low Performance Inflator." Who are you kidding with the prodcut name.
    Pros:

Auto turn off when it worked.

    Cons:

That it blows a fuse easily and becomes a huge paper weight.

Works well when the fuse is not blown

B&D has engineered this unit to make it difficult to replace a blown fuse that is soldered on the circuit. As everyone knows, fuses will blow and will need to be replaced. B&D made it difficult for that to happen unless you modify it by replacing the existing fuse with a fuse holder and a new fuse that is mounted in an easy to access area.
    Pros:

Portability. I would of said "ease of use" but the switch is in a hard to reach area in the storage compartment.

    Cons:

Built like Sears tools... made to break so that you either have to purchase a new one or pay B&D to repair it.

    A Do Not Buy Item

I do some traveling and like to have a compact air compressor with me for those times when a tire gets low on air. I have had two of these units. The first one lasted for about 3 uses before it died (no power). B & D replaced it as it was under warranty. The second unit lasted for 3 or 4 uses and died (no power). Now, it is out of warranty.
    Pros:

The idea behind the product is great: Compact, AC/DC power, automaic shut off and fairly high air pressures.

    Cons:

The unit's electric system is faulty making it unreliable. I expect more than 3, 4 or a half dozen uses before an air compressor dies. I can not recommend this unit.

    DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT

I'm on my third unit - and it just failed. This is a great little unit in that it runs on AC or DC, and has an auto shut-off. Problem is, they keep blowing fuses - even when used very carefully - and the fuse is permanently wired into a circuit board and can't be replaced. Bah! The idea of this machine is convenience - which it doesn't provide because of its poor electrical design and complete lack of reliability. Apparently some of the units work OK, but I suspect that these are units that are mostly used for very low pressure work. If you need to pump something up to more than 40 psi I suspect that most of them will fail. Too bad B&D rates this thing for 160 psi. I'm really surprised that with all the excellent products they make that they are peddling this POS.
    Pros:

12v and 120 v capability auto shut off compact unit neat design

    Cons:

fuses blow when unit is used only lightly - product is defective B&D needs to re-engineer this thing very disappointed, as I have had great faith in this brand for many years
