    Poor Design

Within 10 minutes of first use, noticed trimmer would operate intermittently. On 2nd use noticed it was intermittent again but by pressing the power switch on an angle I could get it to run. After awhile even that didn't work. Obviously a bad switch. Unfortunately I also did not save the receipt. Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me. So that's the last B&D product I will buy.
    Pros:

In expensive - that should have been my first hint.

    Cons:

You get what you pay for.

ST4500 string trimmer. String kept breaking and required removing spool to re-thread thru hole. Last time it jammed and unable to remove spool so returned it to store after owning it for about an hour. B&D used to have a reputation for quality tools - this is absolute junk!
    Pros:

The price was good but expected to get at least one season before it failed.

    Cons:

Every few feet the string broke. PITA to remove and fix spool. Never again B&D.

It WOULD work well for me, love the lightweight of it. But the line keeps breaking, and I can't stand there and deal with that every 5 min!
    Pros:

Lightweight, easy to handle, affordable. Great for small yard...because of luggine an extension cord around.

    Cons:

String keeps breaking, you have to take it apart, refeed it, and 5 minutes later it does it again. And my bump feed has NEVER worked!!!!! Black and Decker should order a recall! There is something wrong with the design. I am very very upset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are stealing the money of anyone who buys this!

    Bad Product

Like a lot of others before me, I wished I had read reviews of this product before I bought. The line constantly breaks. The spool is somewhat difficult to place back into the holder. To advance the line you have to bump the spool a couple of times or so and hard enough to mean it. Even though the motor sounds like it means business, it doesn't like bahaia grass or centipede grass - nor a lot of it. But the thing that really got me - and I should chalk it up partially to user error - is the first time setting up the product to use. Because this product does not have a trigger guard, I ended up striping my leg pretty good. When I went to plug the cord into the product, I inadvertently touched the trigger which caused the product to turn on and jump off the ground and attack my leg. The space from behind the trigger to the handle is very narrow. If there were a guard like other trimmers - a plastic barrier around the trigger - this would greatly improve the safety of this product.
    Pros:

    Nada.

    Cons:

A waste of money. A whole lot of frustration. Don't have the care or want to constantly have to stop and restring every few feet.

    Horrible Product

As others have already said, the string breaks on the spool every few feet and the motor is weak. I've owned it for about 1 month and the motor died. Wish I could give it less than 1 star. I basically feel like B&D stole money from my wallet.
    Pros:

    It's black.

    Cons:

    Everything but the color.

The string kept breaking inside the housing. To fix it I had to unscrew the housing, rethread the string, and screw the housing back. This happened every 10 feet or so as I went along the edge of the lawn. I took it to the store, they rethreaded the string and said "Now it'll work." Hah.
    Pros:

    Cheap

    Cons:

Doesn't really work, because string keeps breaking. Do I really have to give it a star? Can't I submit the review with 0 stars? Guess not.

I bought this at the end of last season. I used it once then and it worked fine. I used it for the first time this season and the motor quit. I think it overheated.
    Pros:

    OK when it works.

    Cons:

    Motor burns out easily.
