    Battery Life is a Joke

While the battery lasts this is a great trimmer. However, the battery life (15-20 mins in normal mode) & 9 hours to recharge are a joke. This is ridiculous, who can trim their whole yard in 15-20 minutes? The rated area on the box indicated 750 sq ft. I estimated how much I was able to do with the one I purchased (& returned); the 1st charge I got <100 sq ft., but I used boost mode for a couple of short bursts just as a test in some heavier grass & I've often found the 1st charge on rechargeable batteries doesn't last as long as subsequent ones. The 2nd charge, did <400 sq ft. in what I would call normal grass trimming use for the most part (<50 sq. ft. heavy grass), along fences & landscaping. I liked everything else about this trimmer, but the battery life & recharge time make this trimmer useless. I would have to have 3 batteries (& 3 chargers since the manual says to leave the batteries on the charger when not in use) in order to ensure I could do my yard & landscaping perimeter.
    Pros:

-Auto feed works great -No cords, gas, or exhaust fumes -Plenty of power for my normal grass trimming needs -Ease in changing line spools (it works the same as a corded B&D model I had for years until the line cutter/hood broke). -For really small yards, if you're willing to get a 2nd battery & charger, this trimmer is probably a good value. With the initial purchase price being so low (I paid about $80 at Menards on sale), one can afford a second battery, even though the ones I found were over half the price I paid for the trimmer.

    Cons:

-Very poor battery life -Battery recharge time (9 hours)

    Battery - WORST EVER

This unit does a great job on edging and regular string trimming. It is light and very well designed. What makes this review a one star review, is the products absolutely horrific, shameful, insulting, and embarrassing battery life. One would assume that the company would have replaced the regular 24V battery, with a 24V LITHIUM battery by now, but that is not the case. It takes 10 to 11 HOURS of charging, to make this battery work for 10 to 15 MINUTES. Black and Decker should be ashamed of themselves. I registered with Black and Decker only to write this review.
    Pros:

besides the battery, it's a very good design

    Cons:

The battery makes this product crap. Also it's unfortunate that you must buy spools instead of replacement string, it's more expensive and wasteful. They should make a Lithium battery replacement for this model .

    Poor Battery life!

I had a Grasshog 12V for 8-9 years. I could trim my whole 1/4 acre with it. This one does not even do my front yard!!!! It dies within 15-20 mins, even after a full 9 hr charge. This is on the normal setting - Boost kills the battery in 3-5 mins!
    Pros:

Rotate head to trim at any angle.

    Cons:

Battery life! Dies very quickly on Normal setting.

Like most, I was glad to do away with the problems of gas unit, until I realized the battery doesn't last long enough to do the job.
    Pros:

    easy to start.

    Cons:

Battery lasts only 10-15 minutes. Might as well get one with a cord.

It's the best trimmer I've owned

I've owned 2 gas trimmers in the past several years (Bosch and Weed Eater). Neither was inexpesive and something always seems to break and I could never seem to find or order the right parts to fix them. Mixing the oil and gas was always a pain. They were loud, heavy and messy. This trimmer is simple and rugged and simple to use. You plug in the batter and go! I enjoy using this trimmer.
    Pros:

It's light, quiet and easy to use. It cuts and trims great. I'd say it's the best edging and timming tool I've owned. I also like the easy of changing the cutting line spool. You just drop in in, really easy.

    Cons:

Others reviewers complain that it only has 20 minutes or so of run time. I agree, the operating time is short. But it's battery operated... so get over it. If you can't then don't buy this trimmer. If it's a problem you can buy and extract battery. So I purchased 2 additional batteries to finish my yard and my edging. I charge them in my workshop between uses. When the power on one runs low, I just plug in another and keep going. I charge them between uses. A faster charger would be nice!

Its quiet but the battery does not last enough even after a 9 hour charge

I have a small yard and I need to rush the weekly weedeater process just to make sure the yard gets done before the battery dies.
    Pros:

    It is quiet

    Cons:

I purcahsed this product at a Lowes in Sept. 2010. Besides the the short Life on the battery is poor. Just recently that PLASTIC PIECE(white in color) that makes the string rotate cracked. I am going to be throwing that thing away and buy a gas weedeater. Why use cheap plastic when in America metal used to do just fine.

    Pros:

ease of starting and the light weight

    Cons:

the battery dies after 20 minutes , the line wont last as long as the battery line just reels out and wont cut , be 2 feet long in a minute of trimming can not finish a third of my lawn, stop and recharge do some more the next day or finish with my gas powered trimmer, finished with blacker and decker

I thought I purchased a super trimmer but was I wrong. It only runs 20 minutes and then you have to charge it 9 hours before you can use it again

I now have 2 trimmers that are worthless. The B&D Grass Hog broke the first day after 15 minutes and can not be fixed deu to can't get parts and the other only runs 15 to 20 minutes and has to charge for 9 hours. I have 1 1/3 acre with drive and garder and lots of flower beds. It will take me 5 days to get it all done. It did not say anywhere that it only works for 20 min. Needless to say it is worthless to me. That gives me two trimmers that are worthless, and to think I am a long time B&D customer. I have everything from toasters, coffe pots and $100.00 and $100.00 of tools and all they have done for me is send me 2 spools of line. I am realy from the bottom of my heart Black and Decker but if you will not see that one trimmer broke the first day I used it and the second one is worthless because by the time I get my trimming done, the first part will already be knee high, I need a new trimmer with a cord, I did not want to write this but e-mailing you doesen't work.
    Pros:

    Nothing

    Cons:

Read your reviews. I think that explanes it. A trimmer that only works 15 to 20 minutes and then you have to charge the battery for 9 hours. Thats crazey.

    Battery Life Incredibly Short

I wish I had read some reviews before I purchased this. I started with the B&D trimmer with the 12v battery. The battery died after 10 minutes. I returned that one in exchange for this thinking the battery life would be much better. WRONG! After 24 hours of charging, the battery lasts less than 10 minutes. I have charged it every night for the past 3 nights and am proud to say, I now have my entire back yard done after 3 nights! WHOOO HOOOO! I will be returning this product tomorrow night. I'm going back to the corded trimmer!
    Pros:

The line feed seems to work well...at least the 30 minutes or so that I've used it.

    Cons:

Battery life make this a useless product to me. My yard is quite small. Battery death is quick and painful...and completely frustrating!

    Expensive and Inefficient

Edged a small front yard and the battery is dead. I still need to weed eat the front yard and the back yard. Charged overnight and started weedeating the backyard. Fortunately I had more line so I could replace the line and continue. Got most of the backyard weedeated but ran out of charge again. Charged the battery, and again started to weedeat the backyard but I ran out of line; I had just put the line in that morning. Since I did not have two extra spools to weedeat the yard, I was not able to complete the bakyard in one weekend. Ridiculously Inefficient and Expensive to use.
    Pros:

Able to start the weedeater and change the line.

    Cons:

The line and the charger do not last long enough to complete a project and the line is very expensive.
