Grasshog 600 - Don't buy it! Turns a short job into a long one

I don't like to give out my email and sign up for websites, but this Grasshog GH600 is just so frustrating! I just had to take up my valuable time tell Black and Decker about it. I searched their website for a place to complain, but can't find one, so here I am. This trimmer is very well designed and runs well for years except for one key function: the line breaks every 10 seconds after owning it a few years. I just got totally frustrated with turning 15 minutes of trimming into a frustrating hour or so of tedious work. I have to keep opening up the spool and pulling the line out by hand every few feet of trimming. What a waste. Such a well designed product just doesen't work if the line keeps breaking and you have to totally open up the spool to feed the line. The special feed they have only seemed to work for about the first year or so, but no more.
    Pros:

    trims and edges

    Cons:

Line breaks so often it is just a time waster

    Better than Craftsman

I've had the craftsman electrics & they break down within a couple of months. Not my Grass Hog. I've had this baby going on 3 yrs. & the only thing that has ever broken is the string gaurd. And I have a pretty big front & back yard.
    Pros:

Changes with ease from trimmer to edger. Don't have to constantly be putting new line in it.

    Cons:

    none in my opinion.

    Great for Trimming and Edging!

I like the ease of changing from a trimmer to an edger. The automatic feed works very well - almost too well. I've gone through a lot of line, but even so, it sure beats fighting with the "bump and feed" types.
    Pros:

    Its ease of use.

    Cons:

The AFS spools of line don't last as long as I'd like and the fairly high cost of replacing them. I've found them at online retailers for less than the local suppliers; buy enough at once and you can get free shipping.

Best trimmer I have ever used! Extremely satisfied

I love this trimmer! I was so mad when my local Home Depot stopped selling it and went to the dual line trimmer instead. I have to now order it online if I need to replace mine. But to me it is well worth it. I have tried several other trimmers and always, always come back to this one. I have a ditch on the street side of my house that is 100 ft long and this tough little jewel has always handled it great! I abuse the poor thing and it keeps right on performing for me. Will never try another one. As for the cost of the replacement spools - dude buy a package of bulk line and re-wind them yourself!
    Pros:

Easy to handle, switches to edger quickly, keeps on going no matter what.

    Cons:

I can't buy it locally anymore

Ok but consider it as a throw away after 3 to 4 years of light duty usage

Easy to use except the line tends to melt together in the spool which prevents it from feeding automaticly which makes it a real pain to use. I have had 2 of these units not counting the 2 that were furnished as replacements under warranty.
    Pros:

Light weight. Two year warranty resulted in receiving 2 new units at no charge.

    Cons:

Does not feed line as well as it should.

    Great value

Very easy to use. I use the both the trimmer and edger after each cut of the lawn. Great results.
    Pros:

Easy to use, easy to transition from trimmer to edger. Easy to replace spools. Power is very suitable. I've owned several of these for each of my properties! Makes for quick reliable work out in the yard! It's the best!

    Cons:

Just remember to periodically brush the lower vents clear of debris to increase the life of your trimmer/edger! I lost my first GH600 from over-heating not realizing the vents had become clogged from grass clippings! It took literally years to accumulate, but that was a disappointing day to lose a valuable tool!

Complete junk; don't waste your money

I am on my second 14" single line string trimmer and have to say that they are junk. On the first one, the line stops feeding after about 7 months of light use. On the second one (shame on my for buying another one), the exact same thing happened. Now I'm stuck with two non-functional trimmers and a bunch of expensive pre-wound string packs that I can't use. Please be advised, these are relatively low priced trimmers and they do have good power while they work, but where B&D must make their money is on the line itself - approx 9-12$ per spool and they go quick. I can't recommend this brand or this product.
    Pros:

    Good power while it works

    Cons:

Terrible build quality and bad longevity, high cost of replacement spools

    satisfied overall

Works well; I use it to trim and edge a small to medium yard.
    Pros:

    Price, availability, weight.

    Cons:

Uses way too much line. The last one I had was not an automatic feed and it used way less. I haven't had any other problems until today when the cap came off and the line hit it, tearing it up-now I'm looking for a new cap. Hopefully this was due to user error and not a universal problem.
