The Flower Tower is an easy project for a beginner DIYer with a green thumb. The materials needed for this project are easy to find at any home improvement store and crafts store. And the Spaceship Earth-inspired cap gives the Flower Tower a fun Disney feel.

How to Build a Disney Inspired Flower Tower

  1. mark-guide

Mark your first straight line from one end of the PVC pipe to the next.

Mark your second straight line one quarter the way around from your first line, from one end of the PVC pipe to the next.

Mark your third straight line, another quarter of the way around, from one end of the PVC pipe to the next.

You now have a Left line, Center line, and a Right line.

  2. marking

On your Center line, measure and mark every 3-3/8" from the bottom of the PVC pipe.

On the Right line, measure and mark 5" from the bottom. Then measure and mark every 3-3/8" up to the top of the line.

On the Left line, measure and mark 5" from the bottom. Then measure and mark every 3-3/8" up to the top of the line.

You should end up with three lines marked with the center points for each hole. The center points on the right and left lines should be offset from the points on the center line.

  3. pipe hole

First clamp the PVC pipe down to your work surface to help prevent it from rolling away. Use two C-clamps. Using your drill and a 1-1/2" Forstener bit, begin drilling holes where you marked each point.

Drill a 3/4" hole into the back of the Flower Tower to receive the hose that will run all the way through the center of the Tower. Note: This hose should have small holes punctured into it. This will help distribute the water evenly between all the plants from top to bottom.

The flange coupling helps the Flower Tower stand up. Place the Tower in a ceramic dish to catch the excess water.

  4. paint1

Set up the Styrofoam sphere and paint it using a can of silver spray paint. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines when using the spray paint.

Tip: Use a long bamboo skewer punctured into the sphere as a handle so you don't get your hands dirty with spray paint.

Draw the Mickey Mouse ears on the sheet of 1/2" Styrofoam and use the craft knife to cut them out to fit around the silver sphere. Styrofoam sands easily so you can sculpt the ears into shape after cutting them out.

Set up the two Mickey Mouse ears and paint them using a can of black spray paint. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines when using the spray paint.

After the spray paint has dried, use your glue gun to apply each ear to the silver sphere.

Once the ears are secured to the sphere, place the whole assembly on the top of the Flower Tower.
