DUSTBUSTER design, the evolution of a supermodel.

dustbuster story

Look at a DUSTBUSTER now and its very existence and design seem obvious, logical, even intuitive. Of course, that is entirely by design. Before a cordless hand vacuum existed it had to be imagined, and so it was by Black & Decker Industrial Designer Carroll Gantz.

Although the first design for the first DUSTBUSTER was created and launched to immediate success, Black & Decker has continually gone back to the drawing board for the past thirty years to perfect it. For decades, industrial designers and engineers have pushed the envelope with the DUSTBUSTER design: tricking it out, paring it down, giving it more vroom, making it take up less room and generally modifying variations on the original theme that has made it a much beloved, indispensable home tool.

Indeed, we keep the U.S. patent office busy. Black & Decker files an average of 250 patent applications each year. For such reasons, The Wall Street Journal has ranked us #1 for technology strength in the Consumer Products segment (May 6th, 2008 issue).

Many modifications and design awards later, every aspect of the original DUSTBUSTER has been reconsidered, re-engineered, and revamped to offer the most power and performance for the price point. The sleek, new modern generation of DUSTBUSTERs continues to push product design and innovative engineering ever forward.
