Building a Corner Cabinet
A desktop and computer desk accessories transform this corner cabinet into a handsome, functional work center. A retractable keyboard shelf supports the keyboard at an easy working height. Computer cables are kept out of sight and tangle-free by a wire organizer. An outlet strip mounted on the desktop is easy to reach and protects the computer from power surges.

Most furniture sold in stores does not fit well in a corner. But due to its triangular shape and efficient design, a built-in corner cabinet fits naturally into any room corner.

The corner cabinet featured here includes side panels that make the cabinet deeper. Installed at a right angle to the wall, the side panels also create a good surface for attaching a built-in bookcase.

The corner cabinet as shown was created using dimensions and angles that fit almost any corner, and allow for many uses. For this reason, altering the design is unnecessary and not recommended.

Most tasks in the corner cabinet project can be done with everyday tools, but the long bevel cuts needed for the face frame and side panels are best done with a table saw. If you do not own a table saw, either rent one, or have the cuts made at a woodworking shop.

Due to its size and weight, a corner cabinet should be assembled on-site.

Desktop, top panel, and shelf are made from 3/4" finish-grade plywood. Use a circular saw and a straightedge guide to cut the pieces to the dimensions shown. If you plan to use the cabinet as a computer work center or an entertainment center, cut off the back corners of the desktop and shelf (but not the top panel) to provide ventilation and space for routing electrical cords.

Back panel and side panels have 1 × 2 hardwood cleats to hold the desktop, shelf, and top panel. Attach them to the panels with glue and 1 1/2" screws driven into counterbored pilot holes. Position cleats according to dimensions shown. NOTE: If you wish to make the shelf the same size as the desktop, add shelf cleats to the side panels (dotted line).
