1. Install the track for the center-mounted drawer slide, as directed by the manufacturer. If the slide track will rest on a permanent shelf, it is easiest to install it on the shelf before assembling the built-in. If the slide will be supported by the face frame and the back panel, mount the slide using the rear bracket included with the drawer slide kit.
2. Measure the drawer opening, then cut all drawer pieces to size. Outline 1/4"-wide dado grooves on the inside faces of the side and front panels, 1/4" from the bottom edges, using a marking gauge as a guide.
3. Cut 1/4" deep dadoes along the marked outlines, using a router and 1/4" straight bit. Use a router edge guide to ensure straight cuts.
4. Clamp and glue the front, back, and side panels together, so front and back panels are between the side panels, and the top edges of panels are aligned. Reinforce each corner with 2" finish nails driven through the joints.
5. Let glue dry, then remove the clamps. From the back of the drawer box, slide the drawer bottom panel fully into the dado grooves. Do not apply glue to the dodoes or the bottom panel.
6. Attach the rear edge of the bottom panel to the back panel with wire nails spaced every 4".
7. Position the drawer box against the back side of the drawer face, so the face overhangs by 1/2" on the sides and bottom, and 1" on the top. Attach the face with 1" screws driven into the drawer face from inside the drawer box.
8. Lay the drawer upside down, then measure and mark a center line along the bottom panel from front to back.
9. Center the drawer slide insert over the marked center line, and attach it with a 1" screw driven through the drawer bottom and into the back panel, and another screw driven diagonally into the drawer front panel.
10. Install the drawer by lining up the insert with the track, then gently pushing the drawer in until the insert and track lock together. Attach drawer pulls or knobs, if desired.
