Cordless Mower FAQ
How long will my Black & Decker cordless mower run?
We recommend up to 1/3 acre home site, this is a property of 14,000 sq ft but a lawn size of around 10,000 sq ft (omitting the space devoted to the house, driveway, walks and flower beds).
Does the grass height effect the run-time?
Yes, height and moisture effect it, the higher the grass and moisture, the less run-time.
If my grass gets too tall or if it has rained, what do I do?
- Raise the cutting height
- Take a smaller pass of cutting
- Allow the motor to keep cutting speed and maintain RPM
- Or all of the above
My run-time seems to have decreased from last year?
Typically your grass conditions are more difficult in the spring than in the fall so you may be cutting less. Also, it is normal for the battery to deplete about 5% of its charge from year to year (20% over 5 years). Replace the battery when you cannot complete your task.
How often do I need to charge the battery?
A charger is included - just plug the charger into an outlet and into the mower. The red LED will light while charging and the green LED will light when fully charged. To maintain the battery life, fully charge the mower after each use. Storing mower without fully charging will reduce battery life.
I charged my mower but it will not start.
Make sure safety key is used.
What maintenance is required for a cordless mower?
Charge the battery after each use, keep the underside of deck relatively clean and sharpen the blade annually (a dull blade reduces run-time).
How long does it take to recharge the battery?
10-12 hours for a full charge, 4 hours for a 60-70% charge.
Can I wash out the underside of the mower with water from a garden hose?
Yes, but do not use mower until the following week to allow adequate drying time.
What type of battery does the mower have and how often do I need to replace the battery?
The mower has two 12 volt deep drain sealed lead acid batteries and, with proper charging, will last about 5 years and can be easily replaced by a repair technician.
At what height do I set the cutting height?
Depends on the grass type and the time of the year. It is recommended that you do not cut off more than 1/3 of the overall height of the grass to protect your lawn from turning brown. If cutting more than 1/3 of the length, use the rear bag attachment or optional discharge chute.
Will mulching the grass build up thatch in my lawn?
Only if you are cutting the grass at too low of a setting (clippings are visible on the lawn), or if there is not adequate moisture to allow for decomposition.
How much does it cost annually for the energy to charge my mower?
This depends on your regional electricity rates, but it is estimated at $5.00.
Can I use any replacement battery?
Not with the same mower performance, battery charger may over or under charge the battery and shorten the battery life.
Can I use any 19” replacement blade?
No, cutting results are based on using the standard blade in conjunction with the cutting deck of the mower. Run-time and results will be effected.
What is the warranty period for B&D cordless mowers?
Full 2 years against defective parts and workmanship for the entire mower and a lifetime warranty for the cutting deck.
